Two News Stories: Remake and Biopic...

~ Two words that will either make you cringe with despair or jump for joy: "Remake and Biopic." For some of us film lovers out there, there has been some recent upset concerning some upcoming possible screen projects related to the Golden Era of Hollywood. Anytime this occurs, there is the debate that this subject matter should be left to history, while the other stance is that justice will be done via modern technology and knowing what we know now about those days in the town of Tinsel. I urge you to judge for yourselves by theses two examples...

From DAILY STAB: Anne Hathaway To Play Judy Garland
March 24, 2009
Oscar nominee Anne Hathaway is set to play Judy Garland on stage and on the screen in an ambitious new theater and film project, which will bring the beloved star’s life story to the stage and the big screen.
Not only will Hathaway act, but she will also belt out Garland’s hits as part of the Weinstein Company’s planned adaptations of biographer Gerald Clarke’s 2001 book Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland. (she showed she can sing during the opening act at the Oscars with Hugh Jackman)
Weinstein boss Harvey Weinstein told WENN of the upcoming project:

“We are thrilled to have the brilliantly talented Anne Hathaway portray stage and screen legend Judy Garland. I have worked with Anne on projects in the past and have known her for many years. She will be a true class act in this challenging role.
“Gerald Clarke’s biography is a fascinating and comprehensive look at Garland’s life and is particularly outstanding because of its exclusive details from her own writings. Her story is incredible subject matter for both theatre and film and we look forward to bringing it to audiences.”

and from BUZZPIRATES.COM: A Three Stooges movie is in the works and an all-star cast is shaping up to play the famous threesome.
Sean Penn has signed on to star in the film, playing Larry. Jim Carrey is in negotiations to play Curly and Benicio del Toro is rumored to be up to play the trio’s slap-stick leader, Moe. Carrey seems like a natural to be in this type of movie, but Penn and del Toro are truly inspired if not weird choices. Time will tell if this is the threesome we’ll actually see in the movie. The Three Stooges remains a well known property with devoted fans worldwide.
The movie is simply titled The Three Stooges and is slated to be released in 2010. The Farrelly Brothers are attached to write and direct the movie. The movie is not going to be a remake or a biopic, its going to be set in the present day. Still, there will have to be a good amount of the classic comedy in there. Making it relevant to today and yet hold true to the original will be a challenge.

Postage stamp honoring Clayton Moore to be released in August 2009

~ This is actually quite interesting to me personally, since I was family friends with Mr. Moore's cousin, Mrs. Arthur Hyer. *Trivia* Clayton Moore was close frineds with actor Rand Brooks- best known for the role of Charles Hamilton in Gone With the Wind. Also- Mr. Moore is the only person to be honored with two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for the protrayal of the same character: "The Lone Ranger" on radio and on television. (Read article below).

From AMERICAN PROFILE (APRIL 5, 2009): Moore, who died in 1999 at age 85 of a heart attack, was a trapeze artist in the 1934 Chicago World's Fair and a movie stuntman. He appeared in bit movie parts from the late 1930s until he saddled up in 1949 for his most famous role, the "Hi-ho, Silver!" masked man. He is survived by an adopted daughter, Dawn, who is thrilled to announce the August issue of a U.S. postage stamp commemorating the Lone Ranger and Silver. "I know he would be incredibly proud," she says.

"In this week’s Page Six Magazine – the granddaughter of Ingrid Bergman and daughter of Isabella Rossellini, Elettra Wiedemann is a product of Hollywood royalty. She’s also a model pursuing a master’s degree in biomedicine.

On her famous family, including her grandmother, Casablanca star Ingrid Bergman, and mother, Isabella Rossellini:“Because my family has been in the public eye, people think they have a bigger influence on who I am. Everyone thinks I watch my grandparents’ movies. I’ve only seen, like, one of them. They’re figments of legend for me too. I’m more a product of the people I was raised around.”

On not living a typical Hollywood lifestyle:“I’m not much of a goer-outer because I get really fat really fast when I drink. If I could be an alcoholic, I probably would be, but I just can’t.”

On her teenage years:“I had a back brace [for scoliosis] but this kid in my class [at the United Nations high school] had been a child solider in Sierra Leone, so I felt lucky. Plus, I was taught never to dwell on it. The feeling was, if you’ve got your arms and your legs and your health, then you can figure everything else out.”

On meeting her boyfriend, James Marshall, at a charity dinner for Mikhail Gorbachev:“It was very star-studded and crazy. I was sitting behind Elton John and felt totally overwhelmed, so I drank vodka. [James was] the only other ‘normal’ person at my table. [I forgot about him, until one day in New York] I took the wrong subway, which I never do. I crossed the platform at Wall Street and the subway doors opened and there was James. I was like, ‘OK, we need to get married now.”

On her relationship with her mother, Isabella Rossellini:“She doesn’t ever say, ‘I’m proud of you.’ We don’t have heart-to-hearts. I go over to her house and she cooks for me, like any other mama. But, you know, I’m not a drug addict. I’m not a total eff-up. She must be happy for that.”
